This Saturday, the streets of Pottsville will roar to life as the Great Pottsville Car Show takes over Laurel Boulevard.
The event, hosted by Pottsville's Humane Fire Company, is scheduled to run from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM along the bustling boulevard near the Schuylkill County Courthouse.
This year’s car show promises to be an experience for fans of classic cars and TV nostalgia alike. Special guest appearances will be made by stars from the TV show, "The Dukes of Hazzard." Tom Wopat, better known as “Luke Duke,” Jeff Altman, who played “Huey Hogg,” and Byron Cherry, who took on the role of “Coy Duke,” will all be in attendance. And of course, the iconic #1 General Lee will be on display, courtesy of Jeff Bowers, a local car enthusiast and committee member for the event.
For those who may not remember, "The Dukes of Hazzard" was a hit TV series from the late 1970s and early 1980s. The show followed the adventures of the Duke family in Hazzard County, Georgia, as they constantly outsmarted the corrupt county officials and criminals, all while driving their iconic car, the General Lee. The show became a cultural phenomenon and remains beloved by fans to this day.
Bowers, who purchased a General Lee just last year, has been a fan of the show since childhood. His home in Mar Lin is a treasure trove of "Dukes of Hazzard" memorabilia. Bowers’ love for the show led him to form friendships with the stars, particularly with Tom Wopat, whom he convinced to attend last year’s Pottsville Cruise. Thanks to those connections, Bowers was able to bring Altman and Cherry on board for this Saturday’s event.
But that’s not all! On Friday night, Wopat, Altman, and Cherry will be at the Pottsville Zone in Pottsville from 5pm to 9pm, signing autographs for fans. The cast members were scheduled to be at Big Diamond Speedway but due to the weather forecast, the races were cancelled.
