A homeowner avoided disaster on Monday morning after a lithium battery caught fire in his home in Ashland.
Just after 6:00am, Monday, emergency personnel were called to 603 Walnut Street in Ashland for a report of a house fire. The caller reported that lithium battery exploded in his home and was now on fire.
Assistant Fire Chief Charlie Orth was first on scene and reported smoke in the area and found the home filling with smoke.
The homeowner was able to get the battery outside into the street before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters from Ashland, Girardville, and Lavelle arrived extinguished the smoking battery and ventilated the home.
The homeowner told firefighters the batter was for an electric skateboard and the battery had been plugged in and charging when it caught fire.
Firefighters from the American Hose Company, Washington Fire Company, Rangers Hose Company, and Lavelle Fire Company responded to the scene.
