Eric J. Hinkel, 66, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Sunday, August 25th, at home.

Born in Norfolk, VA on September 8, 1957, he was the son of the late Joyce (Hill) Hinkel Hess and Harold Hinkel.

He attended Schuylkill Haven High School.

Eric served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 22 years; beginning his career as a military policeman and was an expert in ADA. He retired from the service as a Sergeant.

He was employed at Prysmian as a truck loader for over 35 years.

He was a member of The Belvederes.

Eric enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, trivia, and history.

Eric is survived by two daughters, Molly, wife of David Benway, of Drexel Hill; Claudia Hinkel, partner of Bill, of Myerstown; a son ,Evan Hinkel, partner of Amanda, of Clarks Summit; and his former spouse and friend for 30 years, Coleen Hinkel, of Lititz.

In addition to his parents, Eric is preceded in death by his sister, Claudia Hinkel.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 30th at Geschwindt Stabingas Ebling Funeral Home, Inc in Schuylkill Haven. A visitation will be held from 9:30 until the start of the service.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Bernard E. Shirkness, Jr.
, 82, of Orwigsburg, died August 23, 2024 at Reading Hospital - Tower Health, West Reading.

Born in Shenandoah on January 6, 1942, he was a son of the late Bernard & Alice (Tarlecki) Shirkness.

He graduated from J. W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah in 1959, at the age of 17. As a senior, he signed up to join the armed forces upon graduation. He left for basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was a Spec. 4 Medic at Fifth Evacuation Hospital at Fort Bragg, NC. He was honorably discharged August 10, 1962.

Bernie then took a job as a photographer and reporter for the Evening Herald, Shenandoah, covering stories of the Fallon Mine disaster and return of Father Walter J. Ciszek. After working 40 years for Omnova Solutions, Auburn, as a supervisor he retired in 2003. He got to enjoy traveling with his family, hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, and time spent in Canada with friends.

He married his beloved wife, Judith (Graf) Shirkness, his high school sweetheart, on August 20, 1962. The couple had three children: Lisa, wife of David Siminitus, Pine Grove, Julie, wife of George Sanchez, Wescosville, and Michael Shirkness, Orwigsburg. Bernie is also survived by five grandchildren: Jarid Siminitus & wife, Brielle, Wyomissing, Kelci Siminitus, Pine Grove, Matthew Sanchez & wife, Aja, Alexander Backstrom, all of Allentown, & Kristen Littleton & husband, Alex, Philadelphia, and a great-granddaughter, Sylvie Jude Littleton, three weeks old. He is also survived by his sister, Marlene Bosavage, many nieces & nephews, and his doxies: Penny & Molly.

In addition to his parents, Bernie is also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Shirkness, & brother-in-law, Larry Bosavage.

He was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven. For 53 years he belonged to the American Legion Post #38, Schuylkill Haven. He was a member of the Landingville Fire Company, and a past member of the Orwigsburg Lions Club.

Bernie's faith was a very important part of his life, along with his family and country. He will be remembered for his laughter and infectious smile. Bernie was always ready to help anyone... his friends, family, and strangers alike.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, at 10:30 AM. A Visitation will be held from 9:15-10:15 AM.

Interment with military honors will follow at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

In lieu of flowers donations in Bernie's memory may be made to St. Ambrose RCC, 201 Randel St., Sch. Haven PA 17972 or Red Creek Wildlife Center, 300 Moon Hill Dr., Sch. Haven PA 17972.

Betty Ann Russell
, 85, Frackville, passed away peacefully, early Saturday morning, at the Orwigsburg Center, Orwigsburg.

Born in Frackville, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Joanne Russell. She had been employed as a seamstress for the former Model Garment and later worked for McDonalds.

She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker parish.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John Weremedic and her brother John Russell.

Betty Ann is survived by her nephews: Daniel J. Russell and William “Bill” Russell; her nieces: Kim Russell, Kelly Travis and her husband Brett Travis, Amy Russell, Kristi Rodriguez and her husband Abdiel Rodriguez; great nieces/nephews: Blake and Brayden Travis, Drey Flinchbaugh and Ava Rodriguez.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 2nd at 11 a.m. from the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Frackville with Rev. Giuseppe Esposito officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Englewood, Frackville.

Donald L. Bainbridge
, 72, of Tower City, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 24, 2024 at his home with his family by his side, following a brief illness.

Donny was born in Pottsville, December 29, 1951, a son of the late Leroy and Catherine Heiser Bainbridge.

Donny owned and operated Bainbridge Chimney Sweep for the past 35 years.

Nothing made him happier than being in the outdoors, whether it be riding four wheelers with Sharon, feeding the animals, or taking in all nature has to offer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond, James, Richard, and Leroy Bainbridge; a sister, Sharon Beury.

Surviving are his wife Sharon Pribilla Cinqmars-Bainbridge with whom he spent the last 47 years with; a son, Jason Cinqmars and his wife Jennifer; three brothers, David Bainbridge and his wife Colleen, Gary Bainbridge, and Jackie Bainbridge and his wife Barbara; three grandchildren, Cameron, Carson, and Grace Cinqmars; numerous nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held from the chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home with Pastor Amanda Bressler officiating. Donny will be laid to rest in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Williamstown.
