Driver Cited After Pedestrian Struck in Pottsville


A woman was cited after she struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk with her vehicle in Pottsville.

According to Pottsville Police, on Monday September 23, 2024, around 3:30pm, City Police were dispatched to the area of North 3rd Street and Laurel Boulevard for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. 

Officers arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation into the accident. 

At the conclusion of the investigation, it was determined a 2003 Ford Ranger being driven by 90-year-old Evelyn Branwell, of Pottsville, was making a left turn from North 3rd Street onto Laurel Boulevard to travel West. 

Prior to Branwell making the turn, however, a pedestrian a 45-year-old female from Pottsville was crossing Laurel Boulevard at North 3rd Street in the clearly marked crosswalk. 

Branwell’s vehicle struck the female pedestrian in the middle of the intersection, knocking her to the ground and causing minor injuries. 

Schuylkill EMS arrived on scene to provide medical treatment and transport the pedestrian to Lehigh Valley East Norwegian Street for further medical treatment. 

Branwell did not report any injuries and her vehicle was not damaged. 

A traffic citation was filed on Branwell for Right-Of-Way to Pedestrian in Crosswalk (S).
