HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Marian Catholic Colts Triumph Over Minersville in Overtime Thriller

The Marian Catholic Colts edged out the Minersville Battlin' Miners in an overtime battle on Friday night, winning 20-14 and breaking a two-game losing streak.

Both teams entered the matchup with identical 3-2 records, hungry to bounce back after recent losses.

The first half showcased back-and-forth action between the two teams. In the second quarter, Marian Catholic’s Rory Dixon found the end zone on a 1-yard run, followed by Jah Bushati’s successful extra point to give the Colts a 7-0 lead. Minersville quickly responded with quarterback Dante Carr connecting on a 6-yard touchdown pass to Paiten LaPoint, followed by Jordan Bowers’ extra point to even the score at 7-7.

Just before halftime, Dixon struck again for Marian Catholic with a 2-yard touchdown run. Bushati’s kick extended the Colts' lead to 14-7.

Minersville fought back in the third quarter as Carr linked up with Matt Dube on a 9-yard touchdown pass. Bowers added the extra point to tie the game again at 14-14, setting the stage for a tense fourth quarter where both defenses held firm.

In overtime, Marian Catholic capitalized on their first possession with Dixon running in his third touchdown of the game from 2 yards out. However, the Colts’ attempt at a two-point conversion failed, keeping the score at 20-14. When Minersville got their chance in overtime, the Battlin’ Miners came up short, unable to punch it in, sealing the game in favor of Marian Catholic.

The win propels the Colts to a 4-2 record as they prepare to take on Schuylkill Haven next Friday. Meanwhile, Minersville falls to 3-3 on the season and will look to bounce back on the road against the Pine Grove Cardinals next week.

Final Score: Marian Catholic 20, Minersville 14 (OT)
