The Pottsville Area Crimson Tide surged past the Lehighton Indians with a dominant second-half performance to secure a 21-3 victory on Friday night.
Lehighton opened the scoring in the first quarter after their initial drive stalled deep in Pottsville territory. Kicker Phil Ebberts converted a field goal from 14 yards out to give the Indians an early 3-0 lead.
Both teams struggled to find the end zone throughout much of the first half, but Pottsville broke through just before halftime. With 40 seconds left in the second quarter, Juju Bainbridge powered into the end zone on a 1-yard run. The Crimson Tide took a 7-3 lead into the locker room at the half.
Pottsville's defense took over in the third quarter, forcing a key interception that set up the Tide’s offense in prime position. Quarterback Andrew Allen capitalized, throwing a 17-yard touchdown pass to Tsirell Curry, extending the lead to 14-3.
Lehighton’s offensive woes continued on their next drive as Pottsville's defense struck again with another interception. This time, Allen connected with Letrell Montone, who broke free for a stunning 58-yard touchdown. With the extra point, Pottsville surged ahead 21-3 as the third quarter came to a close.
The Crimson Tide defense kept Lehighton off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, sealing the win.
Pottsville improves to 3-3 on the season and will travel to face unbeaten Northwestern Lehigh next week.
Meanwhile, Lehighton falls to 2-4 and will look to bounce back as they prepare to host Blue Mountain.
