New Ringgold Man Charged After Fleeing Police, Found with Suspected Cocaine, Meth, and Fentanyl

A New Ringgold man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison after he fled from police and was found with a large amount of drugs in Blythe Township.

According to Blythe Township Police Officer Tim Walsh, on Thursday, September 5th, 2024, around 4:00pm, he was monitoring traffic in the area of Water and Valley Street.

Officer Walsh watched a blue sport motorcycle fail to stop at several stop signs in the area and almost lost his balance several times as he attempted to see if he was being followed.

The rider, then began to flee, and Officer Walsh attempted to pull him over.  Officer Walsh also able to obtain the registration of the motorcycle which came back as a Harley Davidson, but the motorcycle was a Yamaha.

The rider hit speeds of 75mph until Officer Walsh was able to block him on a sharp curve, where the rider then fled onto Pierson Blvd which is a dirt road.

Approximately 1 mile on the dirt road, the motorcycle slid out from underneath the rider, and he began to flee on foot.  The rider threw off his helmet and bookbag but was eventually taken into custody by Officer Walsh.

A search of the bookbag led to a large amount of narcotics being found. 

Drugs seized and tested positive included:

  • 11.9 grams of suspected cocaine
  • 27.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine
  • 6.5 grams of suspected fentanyl
  • 23.7 grams of suspected marijuana
Paraphernalia included:
  • 6 syringes
  • 1 digital scale
  • 3 glass smoking devices
  • glassine baggies
As a result, Russell Gernert IV, 44, of New Ringgold was charged with felony fleeing and eluding police, felony flight to avoid apprehension, felony possession with intent to deliver, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, and other summary charges.

Gernert was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Andrew Serina and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on $200,000 straight cash bail.
