Police Arrest Pottsville Man for Felony Criminal Mischief


A Pottsville man is facing charges for allegedly damaging an ex-girlfriend's property.

According to Pottsville Police, on August 12th, 2024, officers were dispatched to 400 Main Street for a report of criminal mischief. It was reported that the caller’s ex-boyfriend had vandalized the property.

On arrival police spoke to a woman who reported that her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Leibensperger, 57, of Pottsville, damaged stone and concrete steps and also damaged caused damage to the area of the swimming pool pump and filter area. Police observed the damage to the steps and the pool pump/filter.

The woman showed police video from security camera where a male that she identified as Leibensperger violently and forcefully shaking and pulling at the top of the pump/filter for the pool and pulling at cords in the area. Leibensperger then leaves but returns after a short time with a hammer. Leibensperger proceeds to chisel and hammer at the stone and concrete steps, causing damage before leaving.

When police spoke to Leibensperger, he admitted to damaging the steps and saying that he was the one who installed the steps.

Police subsequently received an estimate for all the damage to the woman's property of over $5,000.00. Due to this CPL Randolph requested a warrant for the arrest of Leibensperger for Felony Criminal Mischief. The warrant was later issued by Magisterial District Judge Reiley.

On September 13th, 2024, Leibensperger was taken into police custody and had his Preliminary Arraignment before Judge Reiley who set bail for Leibensperger at $10,000 unsecured.
