Joanna A. Schell, 82, of Orwigsburg, passed away Tuesday, September 17th, at Pottsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. Joanna was born in Orwigsburg, on April 21, 1942, a daughter of the late Laura J. (Morris) and Walter E. Heim. She was the wife of Ronald C. Schell, with whom she celebrated 62 years of marriage on June 23.She was a lifetime member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven.
Joanna attended Orwigsburg High School and worked at various factories throughout Orwigsburg and was also a cashier at Boyer’s Food Market in Orwigsburg for over 30 years before retiring in 2014. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching the Hallmark channel, going to the shore and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, Ron, Joanna is survived by her two daughters, Maria, wife of Scott Werner of Auburn and Lisa, wife of Robert Hinchey of St. Clair; grandchildren Laura Kramer, wife of Shawn, Orwigsburg; Kevin Werner of Auburn and Elizabeth Schell and her companion Tyler Scheib and his daughter Emma of Sacramento, PA; a sister, Sally Orlosky, wife of Steve, Orwigsburg ; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her brothers Victor, Sylvester and Walter A. Heim.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 25th at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Schuylkill Haven, with Rev. Msgr. Edward S. Zemanik officiating. Visitation will be from 9:15 to 10:15 AM in the church’s chapel. Interment to follow at St. Ambrose Cemetery and Mausoleum Schuylkill Haven. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Ambrose Parish Memorial Fund, 201 Randel Street, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.

Born in Shenandoah on October 28, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Aloysius and Adelle (Salukas) Kujawski.
Leona was a 1945 graduate of the former Shenandoah Catholic High School. She worked in the local garment industry for many years. Leona enjoyed fashion, decorating, and listening to big band music. Being a lifelong resident of Shenandoah, she was very proud of her Coal Region heritage and the history of the area.
Besides her parents, she was preceded by her son, Keith Altiero in 2004, and her siblings- Eleanor Horner, John “Jack” Kujawski, and Aloysius Kujawski who was killed in action during WWII.
Surviving family includes two sons- Kerry Altiero of Maine and Kris Altiero of Pittsburgh; a daughter- Karla Altiero of New Jersey, former daughter-in-law- Carol Nause of Sugarloaf; a brother- Joseph Kujawski of California; two grandchildren- Evan Altiero of Connecticut and Jessi Altiero of Sugarloaf; along with several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 20th at 10:00am in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights and will be officiated by Msgr. Ronald Bocian.
The Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, Shenandoah has been entrusted with the arrangements.
