Shirley Ann Kocher, 82, formerly of Palo Alto, passed away Thursday August 29, 2024 at the Gardens at York Terrace, Pottsville
Born in Pottsville, September 8th, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Wallace Miller and the late Gladys (Kohr) Miller Wenrich.
She was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School. Upon graduation she worked for 40 years at York Terrace Nursing Home, retiring in 2006. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and was an avid Bingo player.
Shirley was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Port Carbon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Eugene Kocher, in 2014.
She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Kelly and her husband Shawn of Minersville, Son Donald Kocher of Palo Alto, Three grandchildren, Cody Kelly, Kimberly Haslam (Brad) and Kory Kocher (Nicole), Two great-grandchildren, Kory Kocher Jr. and Finley McAllister, a sister Terry O’Shaughnessy of Minersville, Nieces and nephews.
Burial services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to York Terrace Activities Fund at 2140 W. Market Street Pottsville, 17901. Dutcavich Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Charles T. Blew, age 88, of Port Carbon, PA passed away Friday, August 30th, 2024 at his home.
Born in Pottsville, PA on October 9, 1935, he was the son of the late Russell and Kathryn (Bensinger) Blew.
Charlie was a graduate of Port Carbon Soldiers Memorial High School in Port Carbon, Class of 1953. He then went to and graduated as a carpenter from the Thaddeus Stevens Trade School in Lancaster. Charlie was co-owner of the Charles T. Blew and Charles T. Blew Jr Contracting for over 30 years.
Charlie was the first boy scout in Port Carbon and he liked going to public auctions, doing woodworking, and playing the piano.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother David Blew.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elaine E. (Eich) Blew; sons Charles T. Blew and his wife Judy, Daniel W. Blew and his partner Delana Swisher, and Kenneth E. Blew; sister Laura Crochunis; brother Russell "Blewy" Blew; sister-in-law Anna Blew; and nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home in Port Carbon at 10:30AM on Monday, September 9th, with Pastor Steven A. Schmuck officiating.
Relatives and Friends are invited to visit with the family Monday morning from 9-10:30AM at the Funeral Home.
Interment will be held in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Port Carbon.
Catherine M. Leibel, daughter of James and Margaret [Hardy] Collins of Palo Alto, PA, passed away August 30th, 2024, surrounded by her family. Catherine was a life member of St. Stephen's Church and School in Port Carbon. She had celebrated 59 years of marriage with her husband, Carl E. Leibel, who passed away on October 2, 2007. Catherine, or Mary as she was called by her second family, worked in the sewing industry most of her life until retirement. She then did volunteer work for a number of years at the former Good Samaritan Hospital.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings: Margaret Collins Reedy, Thomas, Joseph, Lee, and her twin, William Collins.
Catherine is survived by three children: Edward J. [Dorothy] Leibel, David P. [Kathy] Leibel, and Kathryn L. [Ralph] Jenkins; grandchildren: Edward J. [Nicole] Leibel, Stacia C. [Chris] Scheitrum, and Robert C. Kline; great-grandchildren: Kayla Leibel, Shane D. Scheitrum, Sara [Will] Leibel-Meriney, Amelia C. Scheitrum, Gabrielle D. Scheitrum, Carley J., Colin P., Gracey, and Ceira T. Kline; great-great-granddaughter: Savannah Leibel-Schrader; and brother-in-law: Norman P. Leibel [Maryann].
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church, New Philadelphia, with Msgr. William Glosser officiating on Wednesday, September 4th, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday morning from 9-10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be held at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Church Memorial Fund, 99 Valley Street, New Philadelphia, PA 17959.

Frances “Fran” Lesko, 62, of Frackville, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Shenandoah on April 4, 1962, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Theresa (Orlowski) Glowacki.
Fran was a 1980 graduate of Shenandoah Valley High School where she played the saxophone in the marching band. After high school, she attended the Pottsville School of Nursing and became an LPN. She then went on to work for the Broad Mountain Nursing Home in Frackville where she dedicated 30+ years to caring for her patients with love and compassion.
Outside of her career, Fran loved to travel, especially to Ocean City, Maryland. Her favorite vacation was when she had the opportunity to visit Graceland and Dollywood in Tennessee. She also liked to go camping.
She took pride in decorating her home for every holiday and season. You would often find sunflowers in her décor, as they were her favorite flower.
Fran was a fan of baseball and football, and you could find her rooting for her Pittsburgh Steelers or Philadelphia Phillies. She also enjoyed the times spent with her family and childhood friends.
In August of 2013, she rescued the love of her life, an English Shepherd named Elton. However, above all else, her greatest blessing was becoming a “Mimi” to her grandson Ezra in March of 2020.
Besides her parents, Fran was preceded by her sister- Susan Zubowicz and her niece- April Mahmod.
The surviving family includes her daughter- Megan Lesko, her brother- Joseph Glowacki, her sister- Carol Mahmod (John), and her grandson- Ezra Blessing.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 7th from 9:00am to 10:15am at the Oravitz Home for Funerals, 40 N. Jardin St, Shenandoah. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
Vincent S. Meyer, 61 of Pottsville, died Wednesday August 28th at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill East Norwegian St.
He was born May 15, 1963 in Pottsville a son of Kathleen Schaeffer Young, Mechanicsville and the late Jake Meyer.
He was an Army veteran.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Melissa Mollick Meyer; 3 children, Vincent Meyer and his wife Natasha; Megan Meyer, Shane Meyer; 4 grandchildren, Brodie, Kadence, Jett, Lola; sibling, Grace Meyer, Jill Miller, Jeffery Meyer; mother-in-law Patricia Mollick; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Monday Sept 9th at 1PM from Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Family and friends are invited to a visitation Monday from 9-10:45AM at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home. Pottsville. The family would prefer contributions to help defray some funeral cost to James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, 1112 W. Market St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
