James A. "Jack" Reed, Sr., age 91, of Gratz, passed away on September 21, 2024, at his home.

He was born in Gratz on November 2, 1932, a son of the late Iva A. (Troutman) Reed and the late Marlin S. Reed, Sr.

Jack was the retired owner of James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow and Reed's Fine Furniture, Gratz.

He was a member of Good Shepherd EC Church, Gratz, Gideon's International, and a Gratz Fair Board member.

He enjoyed traveling, going out to eat, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends.

Jack is survived by two sons, James A. (Cathy) Reed Jr., William A. Reed; a daughter, Pamela K. (Dave) Snyder; grandson, James (Megan) Reed III; three granddaughters, Jennifer Reed, Abigail Conrad, Taylor Conrad; one great-granddaughter, Hanna Reed; and a brother, Marlin Reed, Jr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor L. (Starr) Reed, brothers, William Reed and Joseph Reed, sisters, Betty Headdings and Polly Bonawitz.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 11:00 am at the James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow.

Interment will take place in the Gratz Union Cemetery, Gratz.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Gideons International or to Good Sheppard EC Church.

Edward G. Reichwein
, 92, of Main Street, Locustdale, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Shamokin Geisinger Community Hospital, Coal Township. Born in Ashland, February 5, 1932, he was the son of the late Raymond and Dorothy Peifer Reichwein. He was employed as a truck driver for International Paper Company of Mt. Carmel, and later as a school bus driver for Zimmerman Busing of Ringtown. Ed was a past supervisor for Conyngham Township, and Fire Chief of the Locustdale Fire Company. He enjoyed spending time with family and telling stories of the past. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Army in the 826 Tank Battalion, earning the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Thelma Guinther, passing August 25, 2003, a son Charles “Butch” Reichwein, passing April 30, 1995, and a son Edward “Dink” Reichwein Jr., passing September 25, 2014.

Brother: Raymond (Emily) Reichwein, Ashland

Sister: Ruth Benditt, Philadelphia

Sister: Nancy Goodfellow, Perkasie

Eight Grandchildren: Amy (Scott) Palubinsky, Angela (Brian) Kuzma, Brian (Britney) Lizama-Kleman, Tyler Reichwein, Christopher (Rachel) Monahan, Justin Reichwein, Gerard (Breanna) Reichwein, Hannah Reichwein.

Nine Great Grandchildren: Madelyn Kuzma, Aubrianna Palubinsky, Vera Reichwein, Jackson Palubinsky, Ava Palubinsky, Bo Lizama-Kleman, Sage Reichwein, Elijah Reichwein, Arizona Reichwein

Many friends, Nieces, and Nephews

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, September 23, 2024, at 11 AM, in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 47 South Market Street, Mt. Carmel. The Rev. Francis J. Karwacki, pastor will be celebrant. A viewing will be held Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 5 PM until 8 PM in the Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St., Ashland. Interment will be in the New Saint Mauritius Cemetery, Ashland. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made in Ed’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN., 38105.
