The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is set to host a public meeting to address community questions and concerns surrounding the Blythe Recycling and Demolition Site (BRADS) in Blythe Township, Schuylkill County.
The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Saint Clair Elementary/Middle School, located at 227 South Mill St, Saint Clair, PA 17970.
DEP representatives will be available to discuss details of two permit applications currently under review for the BRADS facility, a construction and demolition waste landfill located off Burma Road near St. Clair.
The first application requests a renewal of BRADS’ existing operating permit, which would allow the facility to continue accepting construction and demolition waste for another 10 years. Additionally, BRADS has applied to increase its daily waste acceptance capacity from 1,500 tons to 3,000 tons per day.
DEP is encouraging members of the public who wish to ask questions to submit a written notice in advance. Submissions can be sent to Maria Ocasio, Environmental Justice Coordinator, via email at mocasio@pa.gov or by mail to the DEP’s Bethlehem District Office at 4530 Bath Pike, Bethlehem, PA 18017. Written questions will be accepted up until the day of the meeting.
To ensure an organized format, each attendee will be allowed two questions plus one follow-up. Additional questions may be permitted if time allows. Priority will be given to individuals who pre-register, though on-site registration will also be available.
DEP also provides accommodation for individuals with disabilities. Anyone requiring special assistance to participate in the meeting is encouraged to contact Colleen Connolly at 570-826-2511 or use the Pennsylvania AT&T Relay Service at 800-654-5984 (TDD).
