HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Minersville Rolls Over Panther Valley

The Minersville Area Battlin' Miners went home with a 43-0 victory over Panther Valley on Friday night.

The win allowed Minersville to improve to 7-3 on the season, extending their winning streak to four games as they prepare for the District XI Class 2A Playoffs.

Minersville entered the game riding high after winning their last three games, while Panther Valley, struggling with a 2-7 record, was determined to end their season on a positive note. However, the evening belonged to the Miners.

The scoring opened in the first quarter when Minersville’s Matt Dube caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dante Carr. Easton Schultz converted the subsequent two-point attempt, putting Minersville ahead 8-0. Later in the 1st, Schultz dashed in from one yard out for another touchdown, and kicker Jordan Bowers successfully added the extra point, extending the lead to 15-0.

The second quarter saw the Miners continue their offensive onslaught. Carr connected with Logan Hutsko for a five-yard touchdown pass, followed again by Bowers’ extra point, bringing the score to 22-0. The Miners suprised the Panthers when Paite LaPoint returned a punt for a 72-yard touchdown, capped off by another successful kick from Bowers, stretching the lead to 29-0.

The second half began with more of the same as Schultz added to his tally with an 11-yard touchdown run. Bowers converted yet another kick, making the score 36-0. In the fourth quarter, Gavin Allan capped the scoring for Minersville with a one-yard touchdown run, followed by a successful kick from Bowers, finalizing the score at 43-0.

With the loss, Panther Valley’s season came to an end, while Minersville looks forward to the District XI Class 2A Playoffs. The Miners, seeded fourth, are set to face Executive Education Academy next week, hoping to carry their momentum into the postseason.
