In a District XI Girls Volleyball Class 3A quarterfinal matchup, the Pottsville Area High School girls volleyball team outlasted Jim Thorpe, securing a 3-1 victory to advance to the semifinals.
Pottsville opened strong, claiming the first two sets by narrow margins. The first set ended 25-20, with Pottsville maintaining control throughout, while Jim Thorpe fought back in the second set, only to fall short 25-21.
Jim Thorpe responded in the third set, edging Pottsville 25-23, and giving the Olympians a glimmer of hope in their comeback attempt. However, Pottsville regrouped and dominated the fourth set with a convincing 25-16 finish, clinching the match with a 3-1 set win.
With this victory, Pottsville advances to the District XI semifinal round, where they will face off against Southern Lehigh on Monday, October 28th, 2024. The semifinal match will be held at Catasauqua High School, with both teams vying for a spot in the district final.
