North Schuylkill Fire Prevention Program Promotes Safety and Awareness for Young Students

As part of National Fire Prevention Week, local first responders visited North Schuylkill Elementary School on Friday to teach fire safety lessons to young students.

Firefighters from Ashland, Lavelle, Frackville, and Girardville spent the day interacting with students from kindergarten through sixth grade, sharing fire prevention knowledge.

The program covered a wide range of topics aimed at improving fire safety awareness. Firefighters emphasized the importance of fire prevention at home, teaching students simple yet vital safety practices.

In addition to the safety talks, students were given an inside look into the life of a firefighter. Junior firefighters from North Schuylkill demonstrated their equipment, including the turnout gear they wear during emergencies, and explained the purpose of the various tools they use when responding to fires.

The highlight of the day for many students was the outdoor portion of the program, where they were invited to explore the fire trucks. Fire apparatus from the Lavelle Volunteer Fire Company, Ashland's Washington Fire Company and American Hose Company were on display, giving children a hands-on experience that made the learning even more engaging.
