Violet Mae Viars, 67, of Pottsville passed away peacefully on Oct 14, 2024. The daughter of Betty C Butler and John Rich. She was born on January 23rd 1957. She attended Saint Clair school district.

She is preceded in death by her late husband, David Viars SR., her son David Viars JR., her grandson Ryan McCormmick, and Granddaughter Caitlin.

She is survived by her daughters Alice Krisa and Tanya Viars. Her grandchildren Trevor Grigas, Taylor Viars, Tyler Viars, Samantha Leedom and Gabrielle Snyder whom she raised as her own children. Further grandchildren also included Dylan Krisa, Jaron Krisa, Brentyn Viars, Blantynn Viars, David Viars lll., Brandon Viars and Brodie Viars., Along with her 4 Great grandchildren Jude Krisa, Lincoln Krisa, Declan Viars, and Leila Viars.

She will be remembered for her incredible kindness, infectious laughter and unconditional love. Beloved by many, she touched the lives of all who knew her and she will be deeply missed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 515 West Market Street, Pottsville.

Cindy E. Kaufman
, 70, of Suedberg Rd., Pine Grove, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at the home of her son in Tremont.

Born on February 22, 1954 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late Theodore H. Sr. and Ethel Bohr Becker.

Cindy worked for the former Canoe and Summit Station Mfg. in Pine Grove and retired from Tyco in Lickdale.

She loved Elvis, playing Hay Day with her son and daughter-in-law, and watching the Game Show Channel.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Roy E. Kaufman; and a sister, Bonnie Kehler.

Surviving are a son, Roy Jr. "Bupper" and wife Jeneen Kaufman; a grandson, Caleb and wife Taylor Derr, great grandchildren, Marissa, Troy, Kinsley and Ryder; a step granddaughter, Amber and husband Eddie Collins; two sisters, Linda Wertz of Pine Grove, Tammie Hoy of Pottsville; and a brother Theodore Becker, Jr. of Newtown.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove with Pastor Barry Spatz officiating. There will be a viewing on Monday, October 21, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Suedberg Church of God Cemetery, Pine Grove.

Crystal Lee Schaeffer
, aged 60, passed peacefully on October 13, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. Born on March 4, 1964, Crystal lived a life marked by deep personal relationships and a loving family.

Crystal is survived by her sister, Richelle Sementilli; partner, Bill Oliver; her son, Keith Schaeffer; her daughter, Brandy Schaeffer; and her cherished grandchildren, Dominic, Jenga, Ashlyn, and Silas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Schaeffer; her mother, Sharon Southam; her father, Richard T. Southam; and her brother, Richard G. Southam.

Crystal will be remembered for her warmth and dedication to her family, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Alice W. Davis
, age 83, of St. Clair, PA passed away Wednesday, October 16th, 2024 at Green Valley Skilled Nursing and Rehab. in Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, PA on September 13, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Marguerite (Stone) Weiss.

Alice was a graduate of St. Clair High School. She worked as a seamstress for St. Clair Garment and then Hollander in Frackville. Alice was a member of the St. Clair Boy scouts and loved camping, hunting, fishing, reading, crocheting, cooking, and baking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years David Henry Davis on January 2, 2008.

Alice is survived by a sister Janet C. Little, St. Clair, PA; a brother Thomas Weiss, Downingtown, PA; a niece McKenna Archibald and her companion Ross Miller, Myrtle Beach, SC; nephews: Brian Archibald and his wife Jessica, Myrtle Beach, SC, Walter Archibald and his wife Cheryl, St. Clair, PA, Seth Archibald and his wife Mackenzie and their daughter Gracelynn Ray Archibald, Georgia; David Weiss, Downingtown, PA, and Kenneth Weiss, Downingtown, PA.

Religious Services will be held at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, Port Carbon at 11AM on Friday, October 25th, with Pastor Chris Rotharpt officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a visitation on Friday morning from 10-11AM at the Funeral Home.

Interment will be held in the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund at 300 West Arch Street Pottsville, PA 17901.

Robert R. Murray, Sr.
, 87, of Williamstown passed away peacefully, Wednesday morning, October 16, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Williamstown on Sunday, August 29, 1937, a son of the late John Sr. and Eva Hunter Murray. He was a 1956 graduate of the former Williamstown High School.

Bob retired after 30 years of employment from the former ACME Market, Tower City, where he was an assistant manager.

He was a longtime member of the former Ebenezer EC Church, Williamstown, where he served as a trustee. He was a member of the Ashlar Lodge F&AM 570 and the Harrisburg Scottish Rites. Bob was also a member of the Williamstown American Legion and the Liberty Hose Company #1, Williamstown.

He was a talented baseball player while he was in high school and after graduating, he continued playing in numerous leagues including the Harrisburg Citizens. Once he stopped playing baseball, he continued his love of the sport by cheering on the Boston Red Sox and coaching little league and teeners. He was one of the founding members of the Williamstown Youth Athletic Association.

Bob had a sense of humor like none other and always made his family laugh. His family was the center of his world and he will be remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He also had a very strong bond with his beloved dog, Oreo. Bob enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, and he and Jo always looked forward to their trips to Florida.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Robert Murray, Jr., 2010; sisters, Dorothy Zimmerman and Betty Umholtz; brothers, John "Jack", Kenneth, William, and infant brother, Joseph Murray.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Jo Hawk Murray; his daughter, Kimberley Zappasodi and her husband Steve, Lebanon; two granddaughters, Lindsey Williams, Lykens, and Brittany Zappasodi, Harrisburg; three great grandchildren, Paige, Parker, and Presley Jo; nephews and nieces including, Candy Chapus and Michelle Gitke; close family friends, Dennis Wolfe and Jason Kramer.

Masonic services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home. Following the masonic service, funeral services will be held with Pastor Annette Shutt officiating. Viewing will be from 10-11 at the chapel. Bob will be laid to rest in the Calvary United Methodist Cemetery, Wiconisco. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow at the Williamstown American Legion.

Memorial donations in Bob's memory can be made to the the Williamstown Amercian Legion, 123 W. Market Street, Williamstown PA 17098 or the Williamstown Liberty Hose Company #1, 225 W Broad Street, Williamstown PA 17098.

Gary Dennis Williams
, 73, of West Penn Township, died on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at his residence. He was the husband of Virginia (Wittmeyer) Williams, with whom he celebrated forty-nine years of marriage this past August. 

Born in Palmerton, Gary was the son of the late John Williams, Sr., and Florence (Zellner) Williams. He was a 1969 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, a 1973 graduate of Kutztown University, and later earned a Masters of Science degree at East Stroudsburg University. Gary was a chemistry teacher at Northwestern Lehigh High School, from which he retired in 2006. Known as “Mr. Will,” “Coach Will,” and “Big Guy,” Gary was a beloved football coach with a far-reaching career that included Dieruff High School, Northwestern Lehigh High School, Panther Valley High School, Parkland High School, Kutztown University, and Moravian University. He also coached track and field at Northwestern High School. Gary loved being a grandfather and was an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. 

He is survived by his wife, Ginny; two daughters, Leah Williams and her husband Peter Bilinsky of Haddonfield, New Jersey and Amy Williams of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a sister, Amy Leiby of Allentown; grandchildren, Emmeline and Peter Jacob Bilinsky; and several nieces and nephews. 

Gary was predeceased by his brothers, Richard, Jeffery, John Jr., and Charles “Curt” Williams, who died seven days ago. 

Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 21, 2024, in the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Call from 6-8 PM on Sunday and 9-11 AM on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Sky-View Memorial Park, 108 Lafayette Avenue, Tamaqua.

Andrew “Rocky” J. Ameden,
77, of Minersville, passed away Friday morning, October 11th at LVHN Cedar Crest Hospital, Allentown. 

Born November 1, 1946 in Pottsville. He was the son of the late Jeanne Louise (Anderko) Ameden. He was a graduate of Minersville High School. Andy was a gentle giant and highly intelligent rebuilding anything from scrap to the reworkings of a computer. He loved working with the sound systems for the local legendary band, The Other Side. 

He lost his only sibling, a brother Rick in April 2024. 

Andy is survived by cousins, and his two best friends, Charlie and Jeff. All services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment Mount Peace Cemetery.
