Philip J. Plappert, Jr., 86, a longtime resident of Pottsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19th, 2024.

Philip was born in Pottsville on February 15, 1938, a son of the late Philip Sr., and Julia (Duby) Plappert. He was a 1957 graduate of the Pottsville High School, and then served in the United States Army.

Philip was retired, having worked as a manager for Thom McAn shoe stores in the Fairlane Village Mall, Pottsville, along with several other stores in the Reading and King of Prussia areas. After retirement, he worked as a custodian and bus driver for the Pottsville School District, and was also a bus driver for Avenues.

Philip had a lifelong love of music, and enjoyed playing both the saxophone and clarinet, and was a member of the Cressona Band. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Pottsville, and also the Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife, Anne (Hulahan) Plappert in 1984.

He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Corrigan of Hamburg, his niece and god daughter, Monica Fala of Lansdale, and his best friend and caregiver, Maryanne Gudinas of Palo Alto.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend scripture services which will he held on Friday, October 25th, 2024 at 11 AM at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 West Market Street, Pottsville. A viewing will be held from 10 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Philip will be laid to rest following military honors at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Pottsville immediately following the service.

Nancy L Kline
, age 90, of Valley View, passed away Monday, October 21, 2024 at her residence.

She was born on Monday, December 18, 1933, in Hegins, a daughter of the late Harold E Scheib and the late Flossie A (Huntzinger) Scheib.

She was a 1951 graduate of the former Hegins Twp High School and a 1955 graduate of West Chester State College.

Nancy taught music for the Line Mountain School District for over thirty years

She was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins; where she served as the church organist and music director for over sixty-five years and also a member of the WELCA women's group

She was also a member of PSEA.

Her husband, Roy W Kline passed away in 1995. She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard K Kline, a grandson, Austin Miller, and a brother, Donald Scheib.

She is survived by a daughter, Ann E Miller of Hegins; granddaughter, Kate Herb and her husband Derek of Pitman; two grandsons, A.J. Kline of Valley View and Brad Miller of Hegins; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Tyson Herb; brother, Roger L Scheib of Orwigsburg; sister, Sally Gandy of Harrisburg; daughter in law Mary Lou Harner of Spring Glen, son in law Ron Miller of Hegins; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Friedens Lutheran Church, Hegins, on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Lee Diefenderfer officiating.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday at the church.

Burial will be in Friedens Cemetery, Hegins.

Lorraine L. Fritz
, 81, of Andreas, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, in St. Luke’s Hospice, Bethlehem, as a result of an automobile accident on October 8, 2024. She was the wife of the late Berdell L. Fritz. They were married for 54 years until his passing on May 20, 2015. Prior to retiring, she was employed at the former Scotty’s Fashions, Lehighton. 

Born in Lehighton, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Marian (Hagenbach) Berger. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church, West Penn. She was also a member of Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club, and Orioles Nest 183, both of Lehighton. She patiently and lovingly took care of her husband until his passing. Lorraine loved her cats and the outdoors, which included taking care of her flowers, mowing the grass and tending to her yard. She enjoyed traveling, going on cruises and trips to the beach. 

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Warren, Nevin, and Richard, and two infant sisters. 

Surviving are a daughter, Deborah, wife of William Mooney, of Andreas; lifelong companion, Vern Fritz, of Andreas; granddaughter, Miranda; and a niece and nephews. 

Services will be held at 11am Friday, October 25, 2024, at St. Peter’s Church, 184 St. Peter’s Rd, Tamaqua, Pa 18252 with Rev. Cliffert Herring officiating. Calling hour 10-11am. Interment in the church cemetery. Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society at cancer.org. 

Arrangements are being handled by the Hartman Funeral Home, 1791 West Penn Pike, Rte. 309, New Ringgold.

Jeffrey L. Urban
, 67, of McAdoo, passed away on Saturday morning in a tragic car accident.

Born in Mount Pleasant, he is the son of Hilda Mae (Hershberger) Urban of Friedens, PA, and the late Robert S. Urban.

Jeff was a graduate of Somerset Area High School, class of 1975.

Prior to retiring, he was employed at PPL and Talen Energy for 30 years, starting his career as a Welder then moving into the position of Radiation Protection Technician.

During his retirement, he spent his free time golfing, traveling, mentoring his grandchildren and dancing with his wife. Jeff is known for his laugh, smile and love of life. He was often the life of the party and known to help anyone at any time.

He was a member of the Berwick Golf Club, PPL Towers Club, and Silverbrook Rod & Gun Club.

Jeff was married to his beloved wife, Amy (Revello) Urban for 45 years; Together they have two children, Kelly (Urban) McMullen and partner James Perez, of Hometown, and Ashleigh Urban and partner John Miller, of McAdoo; Three grandchildren that he adored, Avery, Koda and Ava, and his honorary grandchildren Keenan and Gavin Cook; also survived by siblings, Sheree L. (Urban) Martarano, Aubrey L. Urban, Vaun L. Urban, Shaun L. Urban and Cori L.(Urban) Thompson; several brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Silverbrook Rod & Gun Club, McAdoo.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial donations can be made to the McAdoo Fire Company and Ambulance Assoc., 34 S. Kennedy Dr., PO Box 97, McAdoo, PA 18237.
