Shenandoah Valley Dominates Weatherly Area, Clinches Schuylkill League Division 2 Championship

The Shenandoah Valley Blue Devils boys’ soccer team had one goal in mind heading into their match against the Weatherly Area Wreckers: clinch the Schuylkill League Division 2 Championship. With a dominant 10-0 victory, they accomplished that and more.
Shenandoah Valley wasted no time setting the tone. With 27:10 left in the first half, Ayden Zamudio struck first, putting the Blue Devils on the scoreboard. Just eight minutes later, Zamudio found the back of the net again, making it 2-0. The scoring spree continued with Joan Menjivar adding to the tally with 14:34 left in the half. Not to be outdone, Zamudio completed a hat trick at the 10:48 mark. Sam Mentusky capped off the first half with a goal at 5:51, giving Shenandoah Valley a commanding 5-0 lead heading into halftime.

The second half followed the same script, with Zamudio scoring his fourth goal of the game just a minute into the half. Dante Garcia added his name to the score sheet with just over 30 minutes remaining, and Menjivar notched his second goal of the match at the 19:55 mark. A penalty kick by Gordon Slater with 14 minutes left extended the lead to 9-0. Elvis Lara closed out the scoring, finding the net just over a minute before the final whistle.

With the 10-0 victory, Shenandoah Valley recorded their seventh shutout of the season, continuing their remarkable undefeated home streak since the program began last season. The Blue Devils now hold an impressive 15-1 record and have officially clinched the Schuylkill League Division 2 Championship.

Although they’ve secured the title, Shenandoah Valley’s regular season schedule isn't over yet. The Blue Devils will hit the road for their final two regular season matches against Nativity BVM on Tuesday and Minersville on Thursday as they prepare for postseason action.

Shenandoah Valley Head Coach John Burke spoke on how proud he is of the team and what they've accomplished.

"I've been coaching the seniors on this team since they were 10 years old.  When we started this program last year, this is where we expected to be.  The job is not finished, and we are excited for what's next" Coach Burke said.

Going forward into the playoffs, Coach Burke said they are just going to play as they did all season.  "We are going into each game and play unselfishly and keep the ball on the ground", Coach added.
