Beware of Phishing Scammers Claiming ‘Fraudulent Activity’
By State Rep. Dane Watro (R-Luzerne/Schuylkill)
The Office of Attorney General is alerting Pennsylvania residents about a phishing scam involving claims of fraudulent activity on a person’s bank account in order to access personal data and information.s
Oftentimes, the scammers will provide a telephone number for the target to call or instruct the target to reply to an email or text message.
The scammers then request login credentials to financial accounts, account numbers and other personal identifiable information, such as your Social Security number and date of birth.
Financial institutions will never call you asking for your account information or login credentials through a telephone call, text message or email.
If you receive such a call, email or text, do not respond. Instead, you should contact the number on the back of your debit or credit card or contact your financial institution’s local branch office and verify if they made the contact.
If you are a victim of a phishing scam, please inform the Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection or by emailing scams@attorneygeneral.gov or calling 1-800-441-2555.
