Schuylkill County Treasurer Linda Yeich is reminding dog owners that 2025 dog licenses will be available for purchase starting Monday, December 2, 2024.
Pennsylvania law requires all dogs aged two months or older to be licensed annually.
Applications for dog licenses can be picked up at the Schuylkill County Treasurer’s Office, local veterinary offices, or accessed online at www.schuylkillcountypa.gov. Completed applications and payment can be mailed to:
Schuylkill County Treasurer
401 N. Second St
Pottsville, PA 17901
The cost for an annual dog license is $8.70 per dog, with a discounted rate of $6.70 available for senior citizens or individuals with disabilities (proof of disability required). For those who prefer the convenience of online purchasing, licenses can be obtained at www.padoglicense.com for an additional $2.00 processing fee per dog. Applicants using a P.O. Box must provide a physical address when applying online.
Lifetime Licenses Available for Microchipped Dogs
Lifetime licenses are also offered for dogs that have been microchipped. However, Treasurer Yeich emphasizes, “A microchip or tattoo is NOT a dog license.” To apply for a lifetime license, owners must provide a permanent identification verification form completed by a veterinarian or kennel. The cost of a lifetime license is $52.70 per dog, with a senior/disabled rate of $36.70. These licenses can only be purchased in person at the County Treasurer’s Office.
Benefits of Licensing
Dog licenses not only help reunite lost pets with their owners but also support essential services, including animal control, shelter operations, and public safety enforcement. Licenses include the contact information for the Schuylkill County Treasurer’s Office to assist in recovery efforts. Treasurer Yeich notes that the license fee is far less expensive than potential fines under summary offenses.
Expanded List of Licensing Agents
For added convenience, licenses can be purchased at numerous agents throughout the county. A full list of agents is available at www.schuylkillcountypa.gov. New to the list this year are Mark’s Supply locations in Shenandoah and Frackville. However, licenses will no longer be available at Abrachinsky’s Hardware in Shenandoah.
