Born on February 24, 1939 in Washington Twp., he was a son of the late Elmer and Phyllis Zimmerman Schaeffer.
He was a 1956 graduate of Pine Grove High School.
Donald enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Middleton Island, a remote radar site off Alaska (before it became a state).
He worked for 35 years as a Police Officer for the Lebanon VA Medical Center until his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of the Pine Grove Wesleyan Church, Fraternal Order of Police, National Federation of Government Employees for 10 years and the Pine Grove Senior Citizens. He was a life member of the NRA and Pine Grove American Legion Post 374. He enjoyed hunting and going for rides.
Preceding him in death were a daughter, Christine Schaeffer; and his second wife Shirley Kalbach Schaeffer.
Surviving are his wife, June Nagle Schaeffer; a son, Karl and wife Hollly Schaeffer of Pine Grove; two granddaughters, Shelby and husband Evan Graeff, Kamryn Schaeffer; step children, Robert Derfler, Karen Harris; step grandchildren, Matt and wife Kristen Harris, Nathan and wife Melissa Harris; step great grandchildren.
All services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor David Brady officiating. Interment will be in Salem Hetzel''s Cemetery, Pine Grove.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the Wesleyan Church, 74 Bethel Rd., Pine Grove, PA 17963 in his memory.

Born in Pottsville, he was the son of Bernard and Ashley (Jesso) Gigli, of New Ringgold. He was employed by United Parcel Service, Hometown. He was of Catholic faith. He will be remembered as a respectful and well-mannered young man with striking red hair, blue eyes, and a smile that could brighten any room. Blaise cherished his time with family and friends, especially the special bond he shared with his siblings. He loved decorating for the holidays, outdoor activities like fishing and hunting at the cabin, cheering for the Steelers, and playing golf and cornhole with his dad and brother. He loved having long talks with his mom. Blaise had a great sense of humor and was known to be the life of the party and always had that contagious laugh and smile that everyone loved. Despite his own struggles, Blaise had a heart of gold and always offered a helping hand to those in need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
Mental health is a silent battle that people fight every day, it is not a taboo, and it is okay to seek help.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bernard J. and Paulette B. (Snyder) Gigli.
Surviving in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Bernie, and his fiancée, Morgan, and Damian, both of New Ringgold; two sisters, Brynn, and her fiancé, Billy, of Las Vegas, NV, and Bria, of New Ringgold; aunts and uncles; and cousins.
Memorial visitation will be held from 12-3 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, at the Hartman Funeral Home, 1791 West Penn Pike, Rte. 309, New Ringgold. At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to https://givesendgo.com/gigli.
