(nee Billig), 91, of Walker Township, Tamaqua, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 20th, surrounded by her family.

Born in Chester County, Betty was the daughter of the late Charles and Theresa Billig. After the tragic passing of Betty’s mother shortly after giving birth to Betty, she was raised by her devoted father and Betty’s beloved aunt, Clara Billig. She was a member of the 1951 graduating class of Tamaqua High School, attended Albright College, and later graduated from McCann School of Business. In 1953, she married Lowell Koch, her devoted partner for sixty-four years. Together, they built an incredible life as they raised a large, loving family and built a successful business. Betty was a force in building and expanding the family business, Koch’s Turkey Farm, from a backyard flock to one of the nation’s preeminent producers of turkey products. She held innumerable roles as her family and company grew, but none was more important to her than being an ever-present mother and grandmother.

Her greatest love was undoubtedly her family. After raising her four children, she opened her home to days filled with grandchildren, weeknight family dinners, and large family Sunday dinners. Her door, and her heart, was always open. In addition to spending time together in the beautiful Lewistown Valley, she enjoyed time in Florida and Georgia with friends and family. She loved cooking for her loved ones, gardens, her dogs, and dining out with friends and family. Betty’s greatest strength was exuding kindness and graciousness to anyone who crossed her path. She was extraordinarily generous, quietly contributing to causes close to her and the community she loved.

Betty was particularly proud of establishing the Koch Family Educational Equity Scholarship at the Schuylkill Campus of Pennsylvania State University, her annual support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the renovation of Depot Square Park in Tamaqua. Betty was a former employee of Sky-View Memorial Park, a former member of the Board of Directors of the Hometown Nursing Home, a member of the Schuylkill Country Club, and The Ford Field and River Club in Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her husband and partner, Lowell Robert Koch, and her son, Duane Lowell Koch, both of whom died in 2017.

Betty is survived by her beloved daughters: Barbara Koch of Walker Township, Beth Argall (David) of Lake Hauto, and Pamela Williams (Samuel) of Walker Township. She is also survived by her ten adored grandchildren: Conor Hill, Logan Hill, Jessica Kellner (Sean), Brandon Koch (Melissa), Arthur Argall III (Frances), Elizabeth Argall (George), Laura Stein (Jordan), Erica Herrera (Joe), Brock Stein (Sadie), and Brooke Williams (Zeke), as well as eight great-grandchildren.
