Gary Bass, 75, of Schuylkill Haven, died on Friday, November 22, 2024, in Schuylkill Haven. 

Born in Hazleton and formerly of Tamaqua and Virginia Beach, he was the son of the late Lester, Sr. and Evelyn (Keich) Bass. Gary graduated from Tamaqua Area High School in 1966 where he was a member of the track and field team before continuing his education at Goldey-Beacom Community College in Wilmington, Delaware. A Master Plumber and a chronic workaholic, he was the owner of G. Bass Co., a business specializing in plumbing, heating, and HVAC. Gary had a love of John Wayne and Star Trek movies. He enjoyed fishing, playing chess, and was dedicated to doing the best for his family. 

Gary is survived by two daughters, Jessica Bass of Schuylkill Haven, and Tora Wolfe of Pottsville; a son, Gary, and his wife Katie of Reading; a brother, David and his wife Vicky of Baldwinsville, New York; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by a brother Lester Bass, Jr., and a sister Diane Ontiveros. 

Service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Call from 9-10 AM at the funeral home. 

Memorial Contributions may be made to Tamaqua Area High School Hall of Fame Program, 500 Penn Street, Tamaqua, PA 18252. 

Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation services, Inc., Tamaqua.

Samuel Aungst, Jr., 89, of Tamaqua, died on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, in Coaldale. 

The son of the late Samuel, Sr., and Winnie (Turner) Aungst, he was the husband of Ella (Rager) Aungst with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage this past August. Samuel worked as a linesman for the Lakewood Telephone Company and later worked as a groundskeeper for 33 years at the White Birch Golf Course before retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tamaqua. Samuel was devoted to his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to spending time with his family, Samuel excelled in woodworking and refinishing. 

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Flamini and her husband Thomas of West Penn Township and Diane George and her husband Mark of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandsons, Nathan Flamini and his fiancĂ© Alyson, Matthew Flamini and his partner Brianna, and Ethan George; a granddaughter, Eileen Frey and her husband Corey; and five great grandchildren, Ella, Riley, Addie, Sofia, and Knox. 

Samuel was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Yatsko and Ruth Kleckner. 

Service will be held 11 AM on Monday, December 2, 2024, in the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua with the Rev. Dillon Epler officiating. Call from 10-11 AM, Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery (White Church Cemetery), Field Road and Church Road, Barnesville.

Cynthia L. Holley, 73 of Pottsville, died Thursday at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville

She was born March 3, 1951 in Pottsville a daughter of the late Michael J. and Anna Dembitsky Zulick

She was a 1969 graduate of Pottsville Area High School.

Prior to retiring Cynthia was employed by the Pottsville Area School District for 30 years.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minersville.

Surviving are her son William D. Holley, II and his wife Jennifer, Seltzer; 2 grandsons, Gavin Holley and his wife Allison; Jase Holley; a brother, Michael Zulick, Pottsville; nieces and nephews.

Service of Remembrance will be private at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. Interment will be private at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
