A Pottsville man was taken into custody and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison after an incident in the city on Thursday.
Upon arrival, officers located Kevin A Smith, age 35, of Pottsville, who was shirtless and actively obstructing the flow of traffic as he walked north in the roadway.
Smith refused multiple commands to stop and leave the roadway and ran from officers. As Smith continued North on Centre Street, officers attempted to take him into custody at which time he attempted to pull away and punch officers.
A taser was deployed which incapacitated Smith. He was then taken into custody without further incident.
During the investigation, Smith reported he was under the influence of eucalyptus oil which caused his behavior.
Smith was charged with obstructing the roadway (M3), resisting arrest (M2), evading arrest on foot (M2), and persistent disorderly conduct (M3). He was arraigned by MDJ Reiley and transported to SCP unable to post $10,000 bail.
