PennDOT has reduced the speed limits on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County due to weather conditions.
As of 8:45am, Friday, winter weather on I-81 southbound between Exit 138: PA 309 - MCADOO/TAMAQUA and Exit 100: PA 443 - PINE GROVE. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles per hour.
The updated speed limits have been posted in Schuylkill County on variable speed limit signs.
Tier 2 restrictions have also been issued for Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County. That means the following vehicles are prohibited:
- Tractors without trailers.
- Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers.
- Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers.
- Enclosed unloaded or lightly loaded cargo delivery trucks/box trucks that meet the definition of a CMV.
- Passenger vehicles (cars, SUV’s, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers.
- Recreational vehicles/motorhomes.
- School buses, commercial buses and motor coaches.
- Motorcycles.
- Commercial vehicles towing loaded tandem trailers without chains or Alternate Traction Devices (ATDs).
- All loaded or unloaded school buses, commercial buses, and motor coaches regardless of the availability of chains or ATDs.
