Just in time for the holiday season, downtown Pottsville is offering free on-street and off-street parking from Friday, December 13th, at 5:00 PM through Christmas Day, December 25th.
The initiative aims to make holiday shopping more convenient for residents and visitors while supporting local businesses.
Key parking areas offering free access include the Arch Street City lot, located at Centre Street with entrances from both Progress Avenue and Centre Street, and the Mahantongo Parking Deck.
In-coming Mayor Mark Atkinson, the Pottsville City Council, and the Pottsville Parking Authority Board emphasized their commitment to boosting local commerce. They acknowledged the Pottsville Business Association, Pottsville Area Development Corporation, and the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce for their collaborative efforts to make this initiative possible—the first such program in over five years.
While holiday shoppers enjoy free parking in designated lots, the Pottsville Parking Authority reminds residents that certain facilities remain reserved exclusively for municipal permit holders. These include the Hotel Lot, Garfield Diner, John Pott facilities, and the Capitol Parking Deck. Parking enforcement will continue in these areas, as well as in cases of unsafe parking violations.
Local officials encourage residents and visitors to take advantage of the free parking period and enjoy all that downtown Pottsville has to offer this holiday season.
