North Schuylkill Fraternal Order of Police Names Officer of the Year

During their Christmas party on Tuesday evening, the North Schuylkill Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 25 named their 2024 Officer of the Year.

The Officer of the Year was awarded to Coal Township Patrolman David Sage.

Sage has been a patrolman for Coal Township for 47 years where he worked his entire career.

In the late 1970's, Sage would test to become a State Police Trooper.  Even though he passed, at the time, there was a hiring freezing and a position would open up in Coal Township where he began to work in March of 1978 and would graduate from the Allentown Police Academy.  He also worked for the Northumberland County Sheriff's Office.

During his time with Coal Township, he was promoted to be a detective where he investigated 2 murders and had both suspects confess to their crimes without going to trial.

Sage is also the investigating officer for the 1994 death of Matthew Hoy in Coal Township where he still is actively investigating.

Sage would eventually go back to being a Patrolman in 1998.

Sage is member of the North Schuylkill FOP, Trustee, and a past president.

Upon receiving the award from Chaplain Schuylkill County Sheriff Joseph Groody and FOP President Rick Wilson, Sage thanked everyone for the award and dedicated to all police officers.

David was joined at the event by his wife Barbara and daughter Heather.
