The Schuylkill County Conservancy has announced a lineup of events to celebrate the winter season, ranging from creative holiday festivities to educational workshops.

VOTE TODAY! Christmas Tree Contest @ Walk In Art Center
When: December 1-7, 2024, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Where: Walk In Art Center, 220 Parkway, Schuylkill Haven, PA
For the first time, the Schuylkill County Conservancy will sponsor a decorated tree at the Walk In Art Center’s annual Christmas Tree Contest. The Community Education Committee has crafted unique ornaments reflecting local wildlife diversity, some even created by visitors during the Autumn Stroll. The public can vote for their favorite tree, with $1 votes contributing to the Conservancy’s chance to win cash prizes. Voting is available both in-person and online.
The contest runs until the Holiday Artisan Market on December 7, which features local artisans, food, and holiday gifts. Conservancy members are encouraged to join the festivities and support their decorated tree!
Tree Pruning Workshop
When: Monday, December 9, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Where: Market Square Coffee House, 118 W Market St, Orwigsburg, PA
This hands-on workshop, led by certified arborist Frank Snyder, will teach essential skills for pruning young trees. Participants will learn techniques to promote healthy growth and aesthetic shaping. The workshop is free, open to the public, and includes all necessary tools. Dress warmly and bring gloves!

2024 Western Schuylkill County Christmas Bird Count
When: Sunday, December 15
Bird enthusiasts are invited to join the annual Christmas Bird Count, with exciting prospects for spotting Purple Finches, Pine Siskins, and even Evening Grosbeaks. To participate or ask questions, contact dkruel300@comcast.net.
Schuylkill County Sketchers Walk
When: Saturday, December 21, 10:00 - 11:00 AM (Recurring every 3rd Saturday)
Where: Sweet Arrow Lake County Park, Pine Grove, PA
Join naturalist Audrey Wells for a nature walk focused on sketching and observation. No art experience is necessary; participants need only bring drawing materials. County Country Christmas
When: Sunday, December 22, 1:00 - 4:00 PM
Where: Sweet Arrow Lake County Park
Celebrate the season at the first-ever County Country Christmas! Hosted with Friends of Schuylkill Parks and Recreation, the event includes children’s activities and a special visit from Santa Claus, arriving in a festive sleigh.
First Day Walk at Frog Hollow
When: Wednesday, January 1, 2025, 10:00 - 11:00 AM
Where: Frog Hollow Environmental Center, Friedensburg, PA
Kick off the New Year with a guided walk through Frog Hollow, Schuylkill County’s second park. Discover recent improvements and future plans. Trails are rugged, so dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.
