Schuylkill County's history will be further preserved thanks to a $5,000 Historical & Archival Records Care (HARC) grant awarded to the Historical Society of Schuylkill County.
The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC) announced the grant as part of a statewide initiative to support the preservation of historically significant records.
The HARC grants, totaling $152,571 across 28 projects, aim to safeguard Pennsylvania’s historical records and ensure their accessibility for future generations. Schuylkill County's funding will assist the Historical Society in its ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance its archival collections.
“These grants are essential to safeguarding our state's rich history,” said Andrea Lowery, PHMC Executive Director. “By investing in the preservation of these records, we ensure that future generations can learn from the past and build a better future.”
This funding is part of a broader effort by the PHMC to enhance historical recordkeeping across Pennsylvania. Projects receiving HARC grants range from digitizing oral histories of coal miners and railroaders in Huntingdon County to repairing and hosting architectural photographs in Allegheny County.
The Pennsylvania State Historical Records Advisory Board oversees the HARC grant program, ensuring that local governments, historical organizations, and academic institutions across the state can contribute to a shared understanding of Pennsylvania’s past.
