Leroy M Hinkel, age 92, of Barry Twp., passed away Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Serenity Gardens, Kulpmont.


He was born on Tuesday, December 29, 1931, in Barry Twp, a son of the late Edward Hinkel and the late Edna (Weikel) Hinkel.

Leroy was a lifelong self employed farmer.

He was a member of St. John's "Kimmel's" Church, Barry Twp.

Leroy was a former Barry Twp Supervisor for thirty years.

He was a member of the Schuylkill/Carbon County Farm Bureau.

Leroy's life revolved around farming and his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by two brothers, George Hinkel and Richard Hinkel, an infant brother, Clair Hinkel, and six sisters, Helen Klaiss, Catherine Snyder, Irene Roadarmel, Grace Riegel, Susie Gahres, and Ruth Buchspics.

He is survived by his wife Isabel M (Klauger) Hinkel, to whom he was married for 72 years.

He is also survived by three sons, Harry E (Nicholas) Hinkel of Fishkill, NY, David L (Lois) Hinkel of Barry Twp, and Allen T (Karen) Hinkel of Hegins; a daughter, Karen I (Michael) Wasilus of Barry Twp; ten grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; a sister, Esther Whary of Gowen City; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Inc, Valley View, on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Bonnie Yeager officiating.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday at the funeral home..

Burial will be in St. John's "Kimmel's" Cemetery, Barry Twp.

Edward J. Haldeman
, 72, of Tamaqua, died on Friday, November 29, 2024, in Coaldale. He was the husband of Catherine (Kropp) Haldeman with whom he celebrated 45 years of marriage this past September. 

Born in Coaldale, Edward was a son of the late George and Marie (Kleppinger) Haldeman. A 1972 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, he worked at Exide Battery in Hamburg and, later, as both a finisher in the bleachery at Morgan Knitting Mills and as a line operator at Poly Plastics. Edward was an avid Penn State and New England Patriots fan, and an excellent woodworker. His volunteer service includes being long-time sitting president and a proud life member of the Tamaqua Rescue Squad. He was also a life member of the South Ward Fire Co., and a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Church, the Sons of the American Legion Post #173, the Keystone Hunting and Fishing Club, and a social member of East End Fire Co., all of Tamaqua. 

Edward is survived by a son, George Haldeman and his wife Kimberly of Tamaqua; a daughter, Sara Haldeman and her partner Mark Bower of Tamaqua; three sisters, Janice Wright of Hometown, Mary Meredith of Tamaqua, and Regina Blaukowitch and her husband Gene of Tamaqua; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by a sister, Christine Haldeman. 

Services will be held at 8 PM on Wednesday, December 4, at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua with the Rev. Cindy White officiating. Call Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Tamaqua Rescue Squad, 19 Pine Street, Tamaqua, PA 18252 or to the South Ward Fire Co., 352 Van Gelder Street, Tamaqua, PA 18252. 

Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Tamaqua.

Ruth Snyder, 76, former Gilberton and Ashland resident, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Pottsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Pottsville. 

 The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, will announce funeral arrangements.
