Barbara C. O'Connell Piccioni, 83 of Pottsville died peacefully Wednesday at the home of her caregiver Zina.

She was born August 5, 1941, in Pottsville a daughter of the late Joseph P. Sr., and Colette Butler O'Connell

She was 1959 graduate of Nativity BVM High School where she was cheerleader all 4 years of high school.

Prior to retiring Barbara worked for the former President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Schuylkill County the Honorable James J. Curran, Sr.; Reading Anthracite Co., Pottsville and the Law of Offices of James J. Curran, Jr.

Barbara was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville and its Adoration Society; Pottsville B.P.W. where she served in all officer positions, co-chair of the Orchid Award which is the B.P.W.'s signature event. She also attended B.P.W. State and National Conventions. But the highlight of B.P.W. for Barbara was attending the International Board Meeting in Dublin, Ireland. She was also a member of Schuylkill Retirement Association, a member of the advisory board for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and the former Pottsville Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.

Barbara lived a life of generosity and kindness; she never had a negative word to say about anyone and was always willing to help out those in need.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry N. Piccioni on April 17, 2016.

Surviving are her brother Joseph P. O'Connell, II and his wife Patricia, Archibald; her beloved nephew, Joseph P. O'Connell, III; 2 great-nieces, Nora & Everly O'Connell; her dear childhood friend, Sarah Donohue, Pottsville; her devoted caregivers, Zina Garcia, Tamaqua; Melissa Williams, New Philadelphia; Connie Concepcion, Pottsville.

Barbara's family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Compassionate Care Hospice for their care towards Barbara during her final weeks.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11AM from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:30AM until the time of mass. Inurnment will be held in Our Lady of Calvary Chapel Columbarium at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Barbara be made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund, 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901. Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.

Kenneth C. Miller, Sr.
, 78 years of age, formerly of West Penn Township passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024, as a guest of Greenwood Nursing Home in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.

Born Wednesday, December 19, 1945 in Palmerton, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Clayton, and Pauline (Hoppes) Miller. Kenny was also predeceased by; beloved wife, Mary Ellen (Minnich) Miller; sisters, Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Miller, Linda Kunkel; brothers, Dale C., David, and Dennis Miller.

Surviving are son, Kenneth C. Miller, Jr. and his companion Tina; daughter, Kim Vollmer wife of Gary W.; sister, Susan Brickler; brother, Robert Miller and his wife Christine; grandchildren, Zachary Miller and his wife Alexis, Megan Miller, Noah Miller, Michael Fuller, Joshua N. Vollmer, Shiloh G. Vollmer, Asher E. Vollmer; 7 great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive Kenny.

A Tamaqua Area High School graduate, Kenny had worked at the former Bethlehem Steel, and was a member of Christ Evangelical Free Church of Lehighton. Growing up on his family farm, Kenny enjoyed farming, gardening watching QVC, WWE Wrestling, and following Penn State football.

John “Kego” Kegolis
, 88, a resident of Shenandoah, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the home of his daughter and son in law in East Granby, Connecticut.

John was born in Shenandoah on March 14, 1936, a son of the late John and Alice (Antanavage) Kegolis, Sr. He worked in the local mining industry at the former Rosa breaker, then went on to become the foreman of the Shenandoah Borough Street Department until he retired.

John was a member of the former St. Georges Church in Shenandoah, and being an avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Shenandoah Fish and Game Club, the Brandonville Fish and Game Club, the Glovers Hill Club, the Park Crest Fish and Game Club, as well as holding memberships in the Columbia Fire Company and the United Mine Workers of America.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Navitsky) Kegolis in 2001, and by two brothers, Edward and Joseph Kegolis.

John is survived by two daughters, Alyce, wife of Valeriy Novokhatskyy; Linda, wife of Roger Bingaman, and by two sons, William Kegolis and John Kegolis. Grandchildren, James Danchision, Nicole Danchision, Cora Danchision, Avery Danchision, MariAlice Bingaman, Olivia Kegolis, Tyler Kegolis, Corrin Kegolis, Aaron Kegolis, Chad Bingaman and Beth Bingaman Beard survive along with great grandchildren, James Danchision, Vera Danchision, Genesis Danchision, Sunny Shimukonas, Nora Beard and Theo Beard.

A brother, Robert Kegolis also survives along with nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian on Thursday, December 12th, 2024 at 10 AM at the Divine Mercy Church, West Cherry Street Shenandoah. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM at the Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 South Jardin Street, Shenandoah, and again on Thursday morning from 9 AM until 9:45 prior to the procession to the church.

John will be laid to rest alongside his wife at the Our Lady of Dawn Cemetery in Shenandoah Heights, immediately following mass. The Stauffer-Breznik Funeral Home, Albert Breznik, Jr. Funeral Director, is in charge of the arrangement.

Mary Jane Nester, 72, of Shenandoah, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Broad Mountain Nursing and Rehabilitation in Frackville.

Born in Shenandoah on April 18, 1952, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose (Petio) Danowsky.

Mary Jane was a 1969 graduate of Shenandoah Valley High School. She then attended Mt. Aloysius College in Altoona and took courses from the Hadley School for the Blind in Pittsburgh. While in college, she studied ballet and then continued her dancing at Carla’s Dance Studio in Shenandoah. She worked as a cafeteria manager for State Manufacturing in New Philadephia. Mary Jane was a very faithful woman having listened to daily Mass on EWTN and was very active in the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Shenandoah. She was a member of the OLMC Woman’s Sodality, she was a member of the church choir and was always involved when the parish held the Italian Feast. She also was a volunteer to help with the Girl Scouts, enjoyed knitting, and reading by audio due to her sight impairment.

Her surviving family includes her daughter- Angela Nester of NJ, her brother- Joseph Danowsky (Sally) of NJ, her sister- Ann Rizzardi (Tom) of Girardville, and 3 nephews- Louis, Jonathan, and Thomas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 7th at 10am in Divine Mercy Parish, 218 W. Cherry St, Shenandoah. A visitation will be held an hour before Mass from 9 to 10am in the church. Burial will follow in St. Casimir’s Parish Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.
