North Schuylkill High School is set to host the 2025 Northumberland Schuylkill Regional Honors Band Festival, on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 7:00 PM in the North Schuylkill High School Auditorium.
The event will showcase the musical talents of top student musicians from several area high schools, including North Schuylkill, Shenandoah Valley, Shamokin Area, Mount Carmel Area, and Line Mountain.
The festival will be conducted by Guest Conductor Mr. Craig N. Shoener, a well-known figure in the region’s music education community. With a career spanning more than three decades, Mr. Shoener brings a wealth of experience and passion to this role.
A native of Schuylkill County, Mr. Shoener graduated from Pottsville Area High School in 1981 and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Mansfield University in 1985. His teaching career began as Band Director at Nativity BVM High School from 1985 to 1987, followed by a long tenure at North Schuylkill High School, where he served as Band Director, Choir Director, and Music Teacher from 1987 to 2011. He later directed the band at North Schuylkill Elementary School before concluding his full-time teaching career as Director of Bands at Pottsville Area High School, a position he held from 2012 until his retirement in 2019.
Even in retirement, Mr. Shoener remains deeply engaged in the local music scene. Since 2021, he has served as Principal Conductor of the Cressona Band and continues to contribute to the Shenandoah Valley and North Schuylkill Band programs. He also provides leadership in his community as President of Good Will Fire Co. No. 4 of Pottsville, a role he has held since 2007.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Shoener is devoted to his family. He and his wife Pat, married since 1994, have three children—Alyssa (wife of Dan), John (Shenandoah Valley Band Director), and Jacob (North Schuylkill Band Director) —and four grandchildren: Owen, Kellan, Reagan, and Emersyn, who affectionately call him “Pop.”
Admission to the festival will be available at the door. Tickets are priced at $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.
