On Tuesday night, the Minersville Area Battlin' Miners made a strong statement in a Schuylkill League Division I contest, defeating the North Schuylkill Spartans 54-28 on the road.
Minersville entered the game with a 7-2 overall record and a 4-1 mark in league play, while the Spartans sought their first division win, holding a 3-9 overall record and a 0-5 league standing.
The first half featured a closely contested battle. Both teams traded defensive stops and offensive plays, but Minersville managed to head into halftime with a narrow 19-13 lead.
The momentum shifted dramatically in the third quarter. Minersville surged, outscoring North Schuylkill 21-5 to extend their lead to 40-18 by the end of the period.
Minersville’s offense was led by Dante Carr, who scored 17 points, and Shazier Bethea, who added 15 points to the victory.
North Schuylkill was paced by Julian Nelson, who led the Spartans with 8 points, while Zack Marcinowski contributed 5.
The win solidifies Minersville’s strong position in the Schuylkill League standings in Division I in 2nd place.. Meanwhile, North Schuylkill will look to regroup and seek their first league victory in upcoming games.
Minersville is scheduled to play Pine Grove in their next matchup on Thursday, while North Schuylkill aims to bounce back and build momentum when they travel to Tamaqua on Thursday.
