As winter holds its chilly grip, preparations are underway for the 19th Annual Groundhog Day Celebration at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park.
Grover the Groundhog, Schuylkill County's weather prognosticator, remains cozy in his burrow but will emerge at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, to deliver his much-anticipated forecast.
The event will take place at the Sweet Arrow Lake County Park Clubhouse.
A highlight of this year’s festivities is the return of the Pennsylvania Dutch cultural element that has long been associated with Groundhog Day traditions.
Die Schwadore Shalle choir will perform a selection of Pennsylvania Dutch songs. Attendees can look forward to hearing familiar tunes, including the traditional and entertaining repeating song “Schnitzelbank.”
The event will feature a Chinese “Groundhog” Auction, offering a variety of enticing items up for grabs.
Guests can enjoy a spread of light Pennsylvania Dutch refreshments, adding a tasty touch to the day’s festivities.
The best part? This fun-filled event is free and open to the public.
So mark your calendars and bundle up for a day of tradition, music, and wintertime cheer. Will Grover the Groundhog predict an early spring or six more weeks of winter?
The event is organized by the Sweet Arrow Lake Conservation Association
