Man Charged with Attempted Homicide Following Shots Fired in Pottsville Altercation

A man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison after an altercation led to shots fire in Pottsville early Monday.

According to Pottsville Police, on Monday January 13th, 2025 just before 1:00am, the Pottsville Bureau of Police were dispatched to the 300 block of East Norwegian Street for a reported "shots fired".

Upon my arrival officers made contact with a male witness at the 7/11 who stated he observed an altercation between 2 white males and a black male.

The witness stated the altercation happened on East Norwegian Street in the area of the Phoenix Fire Company. Officers went to that location and observed a 27-year-old male gunshot victim.

The victim stated he was involved in an altercation with a black male who was in the 7/11 at the same time as the victim.

Officers had limited contact with the victim since he was flown via Medivac Helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital at Cedar Crest for treatment after being triaged by Schuylkill EMS.

Officers also observed 8 spent 10mm casings on the pavement of the south side of the 300 Block of East Norwegian Street. A resident who lives in the area stated he observed a black male with a grey beanie and black puffy jacket flee the area and run East on East Market Street.

As Units were canvassing the area when they observed a male running South near the area of North Wolfe Street and East Norwegian. This male matched the description of the alleged shooter.

The male was taken into custody on Snyder Street after a foot chase with a Pottsville Police Officer. He was identified as Keron DiWilliam Shockley, age 32.

During a neighborhood canvass a short time later, a firearm was recovered in a garbage can in front of a residence in the 500 block of East Norwegian Street which was a short distance from where police initially engaged the Shockley.

This firearm was a Hi-Point 10 mm handgun. This handgun was the same caliber as the 10 mm casings that were found at the crime scene. After being provided the serial number the Schuylkill County Communications Center reported that the original purchaser was Kayla Aviles, who resides in the 1400 block of East Norwegian Street, Mechanicsville, which is also the address that Keron Shockley resides at. It is also noted that several items of clothing were recovered at different locations that Shockley was traveling, as he attempted to alter his identity while he was trying to escape the area.

Based on the above facts police requested a warrant of arrest charging Keron DiWilliam Shockley, charging him with attempt to commit criminal homicide (H1), possession of a firearm prohibited (F1), aggravated assault (F1)(2 counts), Firearms to be carried without a license (F3), Recklessly endangering another person (M2), Simple Assault (M2), Possession of instruments of crime (M1), Tampering with Physical Evidence (M2), Loitering and Prowling at Night (M3), and Disorderly Conduct (M3).

Shockley was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley and remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison without bail.

The Pottsville Police was assisted by the Pennsylvania State Police, Saint Clair Police, and the Schuylkill Haven Police.
