Minersville Boy Struck by Car Returns to Cheer on Favorite Basketball Team After Surgery

A boy is recovering after being struck by a car this week in Minersville.

The incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, January 7, 2025.  around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of North Street and North Fifth Street.

According to a report from police, a 37-year-old woman and her 8-year-old son were crossing North Street from North Fifth Street. Police said the pair were walking within a clearly marked crosswalk when they were struck by a vehicle.

The vehicle, a white Toyota RAV4, was driven by a 62-year-old woman of Minersville. The vehicle struck both pedestrians, knocking them to the ground and causing serious injuries.

Emergency responders transported the 8-year-old boy to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest, where he is being treated for a fractured pelvis. The 37-year-old woman suffered a hand injury when one of the vehicle’s tires ran over her hand while she was on the ground.  Charges are pending on the driver and will be filed upon completion of the investigation.

The 8-year-old boy, Aiden, underwent surgery and was released from the hospital on Saturday.  Aiden, being one of the Minersville Boys Basketball's biggest fans, made a stop by their game against Nativity BVM to cheer them on.

The Battlin' Miners won the game 70-43, and after winning posed for a photo and met with Aiden.

A GoFundMe has been setup for medical expense for Aiden through the link below.
