The North Schuylkill Lady Spartans basketball team continued their commanding run in Schuylkill League Division I play with an impressive 61-45 victory over the visiting Tamaqua Area Raiders on Friday night.
The matchup also doubled as a District XI Class 4A contest.
Entering the game, North Schuylkill held an 8-3 overall record and sat atop the league standings with a perfect 6-0 mark. Tamaqua, held a 11-2 record and a 5-1 league tally, looked to overtake the division leaders but fell short despite a strong opening.
Tamaqua surged to a quick 6-0 lead in the first quarter, but North Schuylkill responded with a 7-0 run, taking control of the game with three minutes remaining in the period. By the end of the first quarter, the Spartans held a 13-8 advantage.
The momentum remained firmly in North Schuylkill’s favor as they outscored Tamaqua 12-6 in the second quarter, taking a 25-14 lead into halftime. Their relentless defense and consistent scoring carried them through the third quarter, where they extended the lead to 45-30.
In the final quarter, North Schuylkill sealed the victory with a well-rounded offensive effort, finishing with a 16-point margin. The win solidifies the Spartans' place at the top of the Schuylkill League Division I with a 7-0 record and improves their overall standing to 9-3. Their next game is scheduled for January 13 at home against Panther Valley.
Tamaqua’s defeat drops them to 5-2 in league play and 11-3 overall. They will look to bounce back on January 13 when they travel to Schuylkill Haven.
