A State Police Fire Marshal has released an update on the fire investigation at a Mount Carmel Nursing Home on Saturday.
Early Saturday morning, emergency crews responded to a significant fire at the Mount Carmel Senior Living Community Center, located at 2616 Locust Gap Highway. The call came in at approximately 7:45 a.m., with reports of a working structure fire.
When first responders arrived on the scene, they encountered heavy smoke billowing from the front of the nursing home. Firefighters from multiple departments worked swiftly to evacuate the building and contain the blaze.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal unit from the Stonington Barracks was called in to investigate the cause of the fire. According to the initial findings, the fire originated in a hallway of the personal care section of the facility. However, the investigation remains ongoing, with the cause still classified as undetermined.
The incident resulted in minor injuries to several individuals. Three staff members, twelve residents, and five first responders were treated at local hospitals for smoke-related and other minor injuries and later released. However, one staff member remains hospitalized due to smoke inhalation.
All residents of the facility have been safely relocated and are under the care of another facility as the investigation and recovery efforts continue. Some of the residents from the facility are currently residing at Shenandoah Manor.
