Victim Identified in Fatal Schuylkill County House Fire

The Schuylkill County Coroner has identified the victim of a fatal fire in Porter Township on Friday.

The dispatch for the fire came in just after noon, Friday, January 24th, 2025, for a report of a house fire at 2183 East Grand Avenue, in the village of Muir near Tower City.

Dispatch said that a visiting nurse arrived at the home to find smoke coming from it.

A small fire was found inside and quickly put out.

A search of the home by firefighter led to them finding a victim and the Coroner's Office was requested to the scene along with a Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal.

According to Schuylkill County Coroner David Moylan, the victim was identified as 73-year-old David Copeland.

Coroner Moylan said a protocol postmortem cat scan was completed in Schuylkill County and through consulting with the State Police Fire Marshal, a forensic autopsy is requested and will take place later this week at Dauphin County Forensics Center.

The Pennsylvania State Police have not released any information on the fire as of this posting.
