Wanted Ashland Man Apprehended Following Foot Chase

A man wanted by Ashland Police was taken into custody after a short pursuit in Butler Township late Wednesday.

Daniel Leary, 30, of Ashland has been wanted by borough police since November on charges of felony robbery, terroristic threats, theft by unlawful taking, and simple assault.  Those charges stemmed for an incident that occurred on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024.

On Saturday, January 19th, 2025, Ashland Police found Leary hiding in an abandoned home in the borough.  As officers attempted to take him into custody, he was able to escape.  For this incident, Leary now faces charges of burglary and escape.

On Wednesday evening, around 10:00pm, Leary was located in a vehicle at the Sunoco Gas Station in Lavelle, Butler Township.

After a brief foot chase, Leary was taken into custody.  He is now facing additional charges which will be filed later for Wednesday's incident.

An officer and Leary both suffered minor injuries during the foot chase, both were treated by Ashland EMS and released.

Leary was arraigned and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison, bail information was not available.

Assisting Ashland Police during the arrest were police from Butler Township and West Mahanoy Township.
