Two members of the Washington Fire Company Community Ambulance Service were recently recognized for their quick thinking and skilled response after delivering a baby in their ambulance on January 10, 2025.
Driver Jared Janolek and EMT Anna Faulkner responded to a call in Butler Township, where an expectant mother was in labor. An initial exam suggested there was enough time to transport her safely to the hospital before the baby arrived. However, the baby had other plans.
As they traveled southbound on Route 61 to Pottsville, the mother’s water broke near Frackville. With construction ahead reducing traffic to a single lane, Janolek and Faulkner made a swift decision to pull to the left side of the highway just before the road narrowed, prioritizing the mother’s care.
Within minutes, a healthy baby boy, Axl, was born inside Ambulance 38-01. A medic unit from Shenandoah also arrived to assist.
Both mother and baby were reported to be in good condition following the roadside delivery.
In recognition of their outstanding service, the Emergency Health Services Federation awarded Janolek and Faulkner with certificates and pins for their efforts. Additionally, the Washington Fire Company Community Ambulance received a certificate for their dedication to emergency care.
