An elderly Schuylkill County woman was scammed out of more than $4,500 through a phone scam.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, on January 30th, 2025, a Pitman woman walked into their Barracks to report a theft.
The woman told troopers that she received a phone call informing her that she won the Publisher's Clearing House sweepstakes. The person on the phone told the victim she had to pay taxes on her winnings, where she sent the unknown suspect approximately $4,510 in gift cards.
State Police say they are continuing to investigate the incident.
