While much of the nation looked to Punxsutawney Phil for his annual Groundhog Day forecast, residents of Schuylkill County had their own furry forecaster to turn to.
On Sunday, the Sweet Arrow Lake Clubhouse was the location of the 19th annual celebration. Nearly 100 enthusiastic attendees attended to witness the prediction from none other than Grover the Groundhog, joined by his soulmate, Sweet Arrow Lake Sue.
The event, organized by the Sweet Arrow Lake Conservation Association, had Bob Evanchalk read Grover's weather-related poem.
And in a bold contradiction to his more famous counterpart, Punxsutawney Phil, Grover forecasted an early spring! The announcement was met with cheers and feet stomping from the crowd, eager for warmer weather on the horizon.
But Grover isn’t just a weather expert—he’s also the only groundhog known for making Super Bowl predictions. This year, he added an extra layer of excitement by predicting a victory for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Prior to Grover's announcement, he was joined by "Hemlock Hannah" Kulbitsky who provided some fun nature facts about groundhogs and animals in the winter.
