The Schuylkill League Girls Basketball Semifinals delivered another dramatic showdown on Tuesday night as the North Schuylkill Lady Spartans narrowly defeated the Tamaqua Lady Raiders 39-38 in a nail-biting finish.
North Schuylkill controlled the early phases of the game, jumping out to a 12-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Their solid playing allowed them to extend their lead to 21-13 by halftime.
However, the momentum shifted in the third quarter as Tamaqua mounted an impressive comeback. The Lady Raiders went on a scorching 12-0 run, erasing the deficit and tying the game at 27-27 heading into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter was a battle of resilience and grit, with both teams exchanging key baskets.
Tamaqua took a late lead, pulling ahead 38-37 in the final minute. With just seconds remaining, North Schuylkill found themselves with the ball, and it was Kane who delivered the game-winning shot to put the Lady Spartans up by one. Following a Tamaqua timeout, the Lady Raiders had one last opportunity, but their final shot missed the mark, sealing the victory for North Schuylkill.
With the win, North Schuylkill advances to the Schuylkill League Championship, where they will face Schuylkill Haven on Friday at 6:00 PM at Martz Hall.
Tamaqua will continue next week as they have qualified as the number 5 seed in the District XI Class 4A tournament.
