A murder/suicide investigation is underway in the borough of Minersville.
According to Minersville Police Chief Jeffrey Bowers, on Thursday, February 13th, 2025, police responded to a welfare check at 314 Arlene Street for an individual that had not reported to work in 3 days. The fire department was also requested to scene to assist with forced entry into the home.
Once inside, police discovered that the male, Steven Gordon Cox, 60 of 314 Arlene Street, Minersville shot and killed his wife, Tammy Sue Cox, 60, same address, at point blank range while she slept and then turned the gun on himself.
Chief Bowers said that they believe this occurred somewhere between Tuesday, February 11th, 2025 and Wednesday, February 12th, 2025.
Both individuals were transported by the Schuylkill County Coroner's Office for a virtual autopsy and toxicology testing.
Chief Bowers says the investigation into the deaths is still ongoing.
