Authorities seized 26 dogs from a residence on Walnut Street in Ashland following reports of a large number of animals being kept inside the home, according to Ashland Police Chief Ger Daley.
The Pennsylvania State Dog Warden received a tip regarding the situation and, on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, collaborated with borough police, Hillside SPCA, and Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA to investigate the property. Upon arrival, the agencies removed the dogs from the home and transported them to shelters for care.
The resident of the home, Judith Weihl, 62, of 118 Walnut Street, now faces multiple summary charges, including failure to provide rabies vaccinations, failure to obtain dog licenses, and unlawful operation of a dog kennel without a license.
The Pennsylvania State Dog Warden formally filed the charges through the office of Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli in Frackville. Authorities have not disclosed the conditions of the dogs at the time of the seizure.
