Schuylkill County property owners will soon have the opportunity to attend a series of educational meetings regarding the ongoing property reassessment process.
The meetings, hosted by Vision Government Solutions Inc. and presented by Timothy R. Barr, CPE, Executive Director of Pennsylvania Customer Relations & Technology, will be held in March 2025 across five regional locations.
These meetings are scheduled ahead of the release of preliminary property value estimates and the start of informal data verification reviews. Property owners are encouraged to attend any of the sessions to gain a better understanding of the reassessment and valuation process, ask questions, and learn about available tax relief programs.
Meeting Schedule and Locations:
- March 17 – North Schuylkill
- March 24 – Pine Grove Area
- March 25 – Tamaqua Area
- March 26 – Pottsville Area
- March 27 – Blue Mountain
Meeting Details:
- Doors open at 6:30 PM
- Presentation starts at 7:00 PM, followed by a Q&A session
- Meetings conclude at 8:30 PM
During the meetings, officials will explain the reassessment process, discuss property valuation methods, and address general valuation questions. Additionally, property owners will receive guidance on the next steps, including informal data verification reviews and potential appeals. Important tax relief programs, such as Homestead Exemption, Clean and Green, and the Rent Rebate Program, will also be covered.
Progress of the Reassessment Process
As of November 2024, the first phase of the reassessment timeline has been completed. The county successfully conducted property visits, verifying measurements and data for over 94% of parcels. To ensure transparency, over 42,000 residential property owners received Data Verification Mailers (DVMs), allowing them to review their property details.
Additionally, a comprehensive review of neighborhood location mapping has been completed.
What’s Next?
In Spring 2025, preliminary property value estimates will be mailed to property owners. These estimates will include a tax impact analysis to help property owners understand potential changes in tax obligations. Following the release of preliminary values, property owners will have the opportunity to request informal reviews to discuss any concerns about their property data.
By July 1, 2025, final property values will be officially mailed. Property owners who wish to contest their valuations may then pursue formal appeals. The new property assessments will take effect in 2026, along with reduced millage tax rates across the county.
Public Participation Encouraged
Property owners are strongly encouraged to attend these informational meetings to stay informed about the reassessment process and understand its potential impact.
