The Schuylkill County Historical Society has announced classes for those interested in creating pysanky eggs.
A pysanky egg is a Ukrainian Easter Egg that is decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist method. The word pysanka comes from the verb pysaty , "to write" or "to inscribe ", as the designs are not painted on, but written (inscribed) with beeswax. Many other Central and Eastern European ethnic groups decorate eggs using wax resist for Easter.
The fee is $30 for Society members and $35 for nonmembers. Registration is required, please contact the Society at 570-622-7540 or visit Schuylkillhistory.org.
