Three transportation infrastructure projects in the Frackville and Schuylkill Haven areas have received state grants to enhance road safety and pedestrian accessibility, according to Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill) and Sen. Dave Argall (R-29).
I-81 Logistics LLC has been awarded $200,000 to construct a dedicated right-turn lane and install new traffic signaling at the intersection of State Route 61 and Altamont Boulevard near Frackville in West Mahanoy Township. The improvements aim to enhance motorist safety while supporting the development of a commercial property projected to create 600 new jobs.
Frackville Borough has been granted $250,000 to replace deteriorating sidewalks along one block of North Lehigh Avenue. The project will address hazardous conditions caused by aging sidewalks, basement doors, curbs, and handicap ramps, improving pedestrian safety and accessibility.
Schuylkill Haven Borough will receive $250,000 to upgrade sidewalks, curbing, and handicapped ramps along the Parkway section of State Route 443. This funding builds upon a previous $300,000 grant awarded in 2023 through the Multimodal Transportation Fund to further support the project.
“Investing in our infrastructure is essential to keeping our communities safe and accessible,” said Rep. Twardzik. “This funding will support critical sidewalk and roadway improvements across the 123rd District. I look forward to seeing the positive impact these projects will have for residents and businesses throughout the region.”
Sen. Argall emphasized the importance of such funding for local governments, stating, “Projects like these are important for building strong communities yet can be very expensive for local governments. This highly competitive state funding will make drivers and pedestrians safer in our area.”
The grants were awarded through the Multimodal Transportation Fund, a program designed to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable transportation system. The funding was approved during a public meeting of the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency responsible for overseeing investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
