Schuylkill County Conservancy Announces February Events

Schuylkill County residents have several exciting opportunities this February to connect with nature, enhance their artistic skills, and learn more about woodland care. 

The following events have been announced by Schuylkill County Conservancy.

Schuylkill County Sketchers with Audrey Wells

Date: Saturday, February 15
Time: 10:00 – 11:00 AM
Location: Sweet Arrow Lake County Park, 108 Clubhouse Rd, Pine Grove, PA 17963

If you enjoy nature and creativity, join the Schuylkill County Sketchers for a guided walk with naturalist Audrey Wells from the Schuylkill County Conservancy. This is not a workshop but an opportunity to observe the world intensely while sketching in a relaxed setting. Participants need only bring something to draw on and with—no prior art experience is necessary. The event is free and welcomes all ages. This group meets monthly on the third Saturday. Public Forum: Help for Caring for Your Woodlands

Date: Tuesday, February 18
Time: 6:30 – 8:30 PM
Location: Schuylkill County Agricultural Center, 1104 Ag Center Dr, Pottsville, PA 17901

If you own woodlands and need assistance with their care, this public forum is an event you won’t want to miss. Attendees will receive guidance on topics such as planning timber sales, tree identification, and diagnosing tree health issues. This program is sponsored by the Woodland Stewards of Schuylkill County, a committee of the Schuylkill County Conservancy, whose mission is to empower forest owners through knowledge and involvement. "This Bud is for You" – Winter Tree Identification Walk

Date: Saturday, February 22
Time: 10:00 – 11:00 AM
Location: Meet at the Frog Hollow parking area on Stone Mountain Road outside of Friedensburg

Identifying trees in winter can be a challenge, but Service Forester Will Thomas will guide attendees through Frog Hollow to teach them how to recognize trees and shrubs by their buds and bark. Participants should dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear, as trails may be rough and wet. For additional information, call Barbara at 570-617-2421.
